Sen. Cornyn served as a member of the Deputy Whip team after just one year in office, and has been a member of the Republican Senate leadership since 2006. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and was chosen in November 2008 by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
John Cornyn ran for the Republican's and his challenger was Rick Noriega running for the Democrat's as well as being up against many independant parties.

In the campaign video there are many different aspects that Cornyn talks about. The first scene is a stereotypical view of texas as there is images of horses in fields and cowboys. As you will notice throughout the whole video the people singing in the background constantly repeat Big John and sing it in such a way that it sounds very religiously as if he were saint. This is very clever as Texas is seen as very Christian and religous.
He then goes on to say that he is proud to be a Texan and that they do things quickly. The US government system has been heavily critised for the way it is ran. He says that " the way the place is run it makes me sick". Just this short sentence is to reasure people that he won't just try and raise money for next election but actually follow through with his policies.
He then goes on to talk about the troops in afganhistan and how he supported then and reduced crime in the state of Texas. He goes on to say he "rose to the top in just one term and made lesser states scwerm". This indicates that he is good at his job and can again do things quickly.
The next section talk about re-electing another senetor. He comes back basically saying no you dont want to do that you need to send me back because as I will do "the Lord's work" and keep Texas in good hands. He then goes on to say that we to send the message out and tell people my policies and then we can all live happily in a community.
At first Cornyn only leaded Noriega by 47%-43% but in the end, John Cornyn won re-election, 55%-43%.
